An airline schedule change is a carrier-initiated shift in flight time, routing, or equipment that happens after a ticket has been issued.
Schedule changes arrive as SKCHG or TKCHG messages in the GDS, and each carrier sets its own threshold for what counts as significant (commonly 90 or 120 minutes, but verify against the primary source at build time). Below the threshold the passenger is auto-accepted onto the new time. Above it, the passenger can accept, choose a protected alternative, or claim a full refund under the carrier’s involuntary rules.
Downline ancillaries (seat, bag, meal) do not always survive the change. Support teams re-add them or file the refund alongside the acceptance.
