Does ATOL protection cover flight-only bookings?
Only when the flight is sold as part of a package or a Flight-Plus arrangement covered under the scheme. A standalone airline ticket bought directly from the carrier is not ATOL protected.
Who pays for ATOL protection?
The ATOL holder pays the per-passenger APC (ATOL Protection Contribution) into the Air Travel Trust. The cost is usually passed to the customer inside the package price.
